AFC Urgent Care Willow Grove Now Offers Telemedicine

AFC Urgent Care Willow Grove is happy to announce that we now offer telemedicine. From the comfort of your own home, you can receive high-quality care from our Willow Grove area, board-certified doctors. If you are concerned about the current COVID-19 outbreak or are unable to travel to our clinic for your medical ailment, this is a perfect solution for you. AFC Urgent Care Willow Grove, as an essential business, remains open seven days a week for walk-in patients for the services we offer. We hope this new service will make it easier for you to get the care you need in the Willow Grove area.

When did this urgent care center start to offer Telemedicine?

Telemedicine became available at AFC Urgent Care Willow Grove in April of 2020.

How do I make a telemedicine appointment? What should I expect when an appointment is made?

A telemedicine appointment is very easy to make, and the process is fairly straightforward. There is no need for any special hardware or software installation to connect with a provider. All you need is a computer, smartphone, or tablet with audio and video capabilities. Just follow these steps:

  • Click here to register at our facility and select a time for your virtual visit.
  • You will then receive confirmation of your virtual visit in the form of an email and/or text. At this point, you will be asked to complete the rest of our patient registration online before you begin your visit.
  • When your appointment slot arrives, you will receive via text and/or email a “Join Video Visit” link. This link will connect you with our doctor via phone, computer, or tablet. For our provider to hear or see you, your device must have a mic or a camera.
  • One of our board-certified providers will connect with you and evaluate your medical ailment via our telemedicine connection. The provider will treat your healthcare needs. However, there are times where a face to face visit will be needed. If this occurs, we will schedule an appointment for you to be seen at our urgent care center.

Can I be screened for COVID-19 using telemedicine?

Yes, we can screen you for COVID-19 using our telemedicine system, and it is the preferred way to screen for this virus. We prefer the telemedicine system to screen for COVID-19 out of an abundance of concern for the safety of our staff and patients. Again, if you feel you might be showing signs of COVID-19, please connect with us via telemedicine so we can evaluate your conditions.

What are some illnesses and injuries that can be treated with a virtual visit?

Many common illnesses and injuries can be treated with a video visit with one of our providers. These include:

  • COVID-19 screening
  • Headaches
  • Allergies
  • Arthritic Pain
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Colds and Flu
  • Diarrhea
  • Infections
  • Insect Bites
  • Pharyngitis
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Rashes
  • Respiratory Infections
  • Sinusitis
  • Skin Inflammations
  • Cellulitis
  • Sore Throats
  • Sprains & Strains
  • Bladder Infections
  • UTIs
  • Sports Injuries
  • Vomiting

What are some illnesses and injuries that cannot be treated with a virtual visit?

As much as we would like to treat everything over telemedicine, some things do require a face to face appointment with one of our doctors. Some of these services, injuries, and illnesses include:

  • DOT Physicals
  • Camp, Sports, or Non-DOT Work Physicals
  • Immigration Physicals
  • Vaccines
  • X-rays
  • Sutures (stitches)
  • Abscess drainage
  • Foreign body removal

Can I get my prescription medication refilled with telemedicine?

Yes, you can get a prescription medication refill with a video visit, although there are some restrictions on this. We will not prescribe any addictive substances, controlled substances, ADD, ADHD, or any medications related to mental health. Any medications related to treating a chronic illness will be limited to a one-month supply.

How much does it cost to have a telemedicine appointment? Will my insurance cover the cost of an appointment?

During the current public health emergency, many telemedicine appointments are being covered by insurance with little or no copayments from a patient. Even some high deductible plans are being covered 100% during this time. When stay-at-home orders are lifted, and the COVID-19 crisis wanes, this may change. Insurance companies are currently waiving this fee so everyone can stay healthy, but again this may change. Please call our office if you have questions about what fees are required for telemedicine visits.

We are excited to offer this new way to connect with our patients to provide them the healthcare services they need. We look forward to treating you from the comfort of your home and helping keep you safe. Take advantage of our new telemedicine platform today and book an appointment. Questions? Please call, and we’ll be happy to help you and walk you through the process.
